North Zone Fallers Experience & Resources

North Zone Fallers President, David Branson, holds a Bachelors of Science Degree from California State University, Chico and a California Lifetime Secondary Teaching Credential.  He is a highly successful educator and has taught:


•Basic Saw class at College of the Siskiyous in Weed

•C Faller Certification class for the USFS

•Hazard tree awareness for wildland fire groups


Additionally, Dave has been a professional tree faller for the past 30 years.

North Zone Fallers is composed of highly qualified professionals that provide a quality job using the best safety techniques.  With supervision from agency falling bosses and crew bosses, NZF utilizes the two-faller module ensuring a quick response with the safest fire line practices possible.  One-faller modules are also available depending on the needs of the agency.  Fallers employed with NZF have perfected their craft with a minimum of five years professional timber falling experience with at least six wildfire assignments and a minimum of falling 30 fire damaged trees.  Employees with NZF are professional timber fallers from throughout the Western Region possessing training in:


•Fire Shelter

•Level 1 Refresher

•I-100

•S-130

•S-190

•L-180

•Hazard Tree Management

•Helicopter Safety

•CPR/First Aid

•Pack test


NZF guarantees and insures any work performed.

North Zone management expects and receives the most professional and safe results from their fallers.  The equipment utilized is modern, efficient and well maintained to meet the needs of the fallers.  Equipment available to our crew includes:


•Mobile saw support vehicle used for saw maintenance and repair, chain grinding, small engine repair

•Wood chipper rated to handle a 5” limb and comes with a tow vehicle and experienced operator.  The chipper is environmentally friendly with a 6 cycle Ford engine used by major metropolitan areas to combat air pollution

•Equipment for Mark III Pump repair along with a certified mechanic

•Bug Light used for area lighting.  The Bug Light will illuminate an area of 150’ with a quiet, low emission Honda EU 2000 generator
